FTW Staff Picks - ROFL!
Today, we're gonna look at an often overlooked party game in our Library. In ROFL! players attempt to condense popular phrases into as few keyboard characters as possible, while still keeping it decipherable by the player guessing the phrase. All those years you spent texting acronyms to your friends and family will finally be put to good use.
The less characters you use, the earlier you will be able to show the guesser your phrase, and the more points you can both earn. Instead of spelling out "heart" you can use "<3". It's similar to Concept where the game is only limited by the creativity of the players. But beware, if the guesser cannot correctly read the phrase aloud, the next shortest phrase will be up and the guesser will then be able to use what they learned from the first guess and incorporate it into their next one.
Each number on the board can only be occupied by one player, so if you used just 6 characters in your phrase, but someone already has their pawn on that spot, you'll have to either shorten it or lengthen it depending on if you want to go earlier or later than that player.
All the phrases in the game are derived from modern pop culture and have their own category that is read aloud before the round starts. There are even blank cards that let players write-in their own phrases. All-in-all, if you're looking for a solid party game with a strong competitive side and some good laughs, give ROFL! a roll.
