FTW Staff Picks - Patchwork
If you're familiar with board games, you have probably heard or seen the name Uwe Rosenberg before. His resume is extensive and acclaimed with games like Agricola, Bohnanza and Caverna. Due to this, there's always a certain expectation that comes with a new Rosenberg title, and Patchwork definitely delivers.
In Patchwork, players are individually crafting their own quilts using tetromino-shaped tiles. The game balances two different types of currency in time and buttons. Each tile costs a set amount of buttons and/or tiles, and some provide additional income for future turns. Be careful buying that costly piece, as jumping too far ahead on the time-track will provide your opponent with multiple consecutive turns (like Tokaido).
Patchwork is a strong two-player selection because it provides what I find most valuable in a two-player game: interactivity. You are building your own quilt, but equally important is keeping track of your opponents quilt. And at every turn of the game, you can influence the options that are available to them.
There is no shortage of great two-player games, and we're happy to have added yet another one to our Library and Retail.
